ENDPOLIONOW_4pIndia, one of the 4 remaining countries with active polio outbreaks, reported that the last case of wild poliovirus type 1 recorded in India was on January 13, 2011 in the state of West Bengal. This is a giant step on the way to polio eradication in India. To achieve eradication a country must be polio free for 3 consecutive years. More than 900 million doses of polio vaccine were administered in India in 2011. Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan are still reporting polio cases and this is why we continue the fight. Our Rotary International funds are a huge part of ensuring that this war is won. It is a war that we WILL win through strength in numbers.
