GUEST SPEAKER: Colonel David Williamson USAF Retired

Colonel Williamson is a tenured member of the Dublin AM Rotary club.  He is active in many Rotary causes including veterans awareness.

The Colonel’s update was a good reminder of not only the significant sacrifices members of the armed forces make for our freedom, but also the sacrifices of the military families.

In the US, approximately 3.7% of the population (roughly 2 million people) serve in the armed forces.  The families of those serving may qualify to display a Blue Star flag.  The number of stars represent the number of family members serving in a conflict.

A family displaying a Gold Star flag has lost a close family member in a conflict.  The number of gold stars represents the number of family members who died.

The Dublin AM Rotary Club is involved in several way to help raise awareness about veterans’ topics:
  1. This year’s Pro-Am tournament sponsored by the Dublin AM Rotary will help raise awareness to the Blue Star and Gold Star programs.  The Pro-Am and the Dublin AM Rotary Club will each donate $500 to Honor Flight (a program to honor veterans and fly them to Washington DC).
  2. A partnership has been formed with the Ohio State University Fisher College of Business to help coordinate the activities of several organizations in support of the Blue and Gold Star programs in Ohio.

Thanks David for bringing this information to the club.
